She defied every convention. She amazed the public at the 1955 Motor Show. And even today, 70 years on, the Citroën DS continues to fascinate.
With the exhibition “Citroën DS – An Icon Turns 70,” Brussels/ Autoworld Museum celebrates a car that was both a technical marvel and a design masterpiece.
From the understated ID19 to the luxurious DS23 Pallas and the rare DS Chaperon convertible: each model tells its own unique story.
DS Balloons, the futuristic DS Totem, or even a floating DS… this exhibition is far more than a tribute. It’s a true visual delight, mapping the boldness and creativity that defined the design of the Citroën DS through the decades.
Eager to witness this unique line-up of the French Goddess in real life? Be sure to visit Autoworld before 29 June.
This striking creation from 1959, designed by Claude Puech – then head of Citroën’s advertising department – was a revolutionary publicity stunt that caught the attention of the global press. Instead of wheels, this orange DS 19 ‘Ecaille Blonde’ rests on four large, balloon-like spheres. A daring nod to the DS’s groundbreaking hydropneumatic suspension, which earned it the nickname “flying carpet.” The result? A car that appears to float – like a dream on air. After disappearing from the spotlight for decades, this iconic model has recently been faithfully rebuilt to its original design.
Thanks to a close collaboration with Stellantis, the DS Balloons can now be admired in Belgium for the very first time.
As the centrepiece of the exhibition, it embodies everything the Citroën DS represents: boldness, innovation, and French elegance.
The latest prestigious saloon from DS Automobiles also represents elegance, comfort, and technological innovation. With its sleek silhouette, powerful lines, luxurious interior finish, and advanced technology, it is a stunning example of French excellence. Designed to deliver a smooth and supremely comfortable ride, the DS N°8 sets a new benchmark in the world of high-end luxury cars. We are honoured to present one of the very first models in Belgium.
- The expo runs until the end of this month.
