Are you an expat in Belgium with concerns about your rights?

If so, an upcoming meeting could be just for you.

It is organised by New Europeans UK and will be held both in person and online.

The UK based group was launched in 2013 to help protect the rights of EU citizens in the UK but also to provide advice and guidance for Britons who live and work abroad, including Belgium.

Its next meeting on citizens’ rights will focus on Britons abroad.

The meeting will be held on July 2, from 2.30 to 4pm, at the UK parliament (Room W3, off Westminster Hall) with a zoom link for those joining online.

Registration for Zoom link is necessary. Anyone who would like to attend in person, should inform the organisers so an invitation can be sent by email.

The first part of the meeting will look at how Comites and General Council work for Italians abroad, and what the UK and Britons abroad can learn this.

The main speaker is Elena Remegi who is an elected UK Councillor for the General Council for Italians abroad (CGIE) and for the Committee for Italians abroad.

For the second part of the meeting, there will be a discussion on how best to take the group’s joint campaign with Unlock Democracy for overseas constituencies forward.

A spokesman told this site: “So far we have David Sapiro, Chair of Liberal Democrats in Europe, sharing their thoughts.”

She added, “We hope to also have representation from Labour International and Conservatives Abroad along with attendance from the different groups of Britons abroad who support the campaign.”

Its work is supported by, among others, the UK Home Office and Greater London Authority.
