Concerts to celebrate restored church organ

372

The 25th anniversary of the restoration of the organ in the Notre Dame du Finistère church (Rue Neuve in Brussels) is being marked musically.

To celebrate the occasion, two concerts will be offered next month.

They will feature the organists Momoyo Kokubu and Xavier Deprez, and coloratura soprano Caroline Jestaedt, in a classical program for the general public.

Twenty-five years ago, the Romantic organ in the Notre Dame du Finistère church was restored by the Thomas organ manufacturer.

Brussels was a cultural capital in 2000, which has allowed for the creation of a series of organ restoration projects and new instruments, such as the one in the cathedral. It is thanks to the benevolence of King Albert II and the CGER that patronage was established and the restoration of this 1856 instrument was completed.

Since 2000, in addition to services, the Finistère organ has been played almost weekly in concert during Organ Mondays at 1pm.

The concerts are on 9 June at 4pm and 7pm.

The program includes works by Bach, Handel, Schubert, and Franck.
