Contemporary art season is in full swing in Brussels

From Alechinsky’s delicate brushwork and the subtle photographs of Stephan Vanfleteren, to the avant-garde experiments of the Taeuber Arp couple, this season’s exhibitions showcase a wide variety of approaches and worlds.

New events, re-openings, and inaugurations: a fresh breeze is blowing through the Brussels art scene this autumn.

The cultural calendar of the capital’s art centres, galleries, and museums also offers great opportunities to discover big names of contemporary art.

Alongside this abundant schedule, a series of new initiatives kick-off the artistic year.

For its first edition, RendezVous is organising a weekend of meetings and openings, with around fifty contemporary art galleries participating.

In Forest, the Espace Constantin Chariot is opening its doors with a bold project that combines exhibitions and artist residencies.

In central Brussels, La Centrale for Contemporary Art is welcoming visitors to its newly renovated  spaces.

Thematic exhibitions Thu-Van Tran – “Write as the beasts cry at night” An emerging figure on the French contemporary art scene, Thu-Van Tran was one of the finalists of the 2018 Marcel Duchamp Prize before exhibiting in numerous venues such as the Bourse de Commerce (Pinault Foundation) and the MAMAC in Nice. In Brussels, Write as the Beasts Cry at Night is positioned at the confluence of two cultures.

The Franco-Vietnamese artist offers a reflection on Vietnam’s colonial history while highlighting the importance of the fragment, the imprint, and memory. Influenced by various sources, including cinema and literature, her work is expressed across numerous mediums, ranging from sculpture to painting.
