On Belgium’s national day, 21 July, you can take part in a monster banquet of mussels and chips – the national dish – in the heart of old Brussels.  At Place du Jeu de Balle (the fleamarket) the terraces of all the restaurants in the old square will welcome you to discover their culinary talents in preparing one of the country’s most famous dishes.

For those that like to eat with the sand between their toes, you can join the long banqueting table being set up at the artificial beach of ‘Bruxelles Les Bains’ in central Brussels and enjoy mussels marinière and chips ‘by the sea’.
