The Kanal Brussels opening is a date to put in the diary: the museum welcomes visitors from 28 November 2026. For the capital’s art lovers, it offers a new place to build an afternoon around; for everyone else, it is a reason to look at another part of the city with fresh interest.
The opening weekend runs on 28 and 29 November, with free admission announced by the museum. Ten exhibitions sit alongside performances, concerts, DJ sets, films and family workshops. Check the individual programme entries for any specific booking arrangements before setting out.
More than one way into culture
Kanal’s announced programme brings exhibitions into conversation with performance, film, dance, music and sound. That breadth makes the opening interesting even if gallery-going is not usually your first choice for a Saturday.
A useful approach is to choose your own entry point. Go for an exhibition if you want time to look, or browse the live programme if an evening performance feels more inviting. You do not have to understand everything about a new institution to find something that speaks to you.
An opening exhibition with a long view
A Truly Immense Journey: 100 Years of Masterpieces, Centre Pompidou Collection is announced from 28 November 2026 to 9 January 2028. That run gives you room to choose a first visit after the opening weekend, if you prefer to explore with less pressure on the diary.
The exhibition brings together more than 350 works, predominantly from the Centre Pompidou and Kanal, alongside other Belgian holdings. Its artists include Henri Matisse, Sonia Delaunay, Sammy Baloji and Edith Dekyndt: a promising starting point for a conversation between international collections and the city’s own artistic life.
The line-up also includes An Infinite Woman: Black Archives in Two Acts, running until 25 April 2027, and Banu Cennetoğlu’s right?, scheduled until 23 May 2027. These different perspectives give you several reasons to return after the opening celebrations.
Choose your own first encounter
Compare the exhibition descriptions before booking, then pick one starting point. Look for a subject that interests you, an artist you want to know or a question you would enjoy discussing with a friend. A focused first visit can leave a good reason to return.
Kanal also announces a live programme spanning performance, film, dance, music and sound. If an evening event feels more inviting than a museum afternoon, browse that calendar separately. Check the time and admission for the individual event rather than assuming an exhibition ticket includes it.
