Establishments wishing to participate in the 2024 edition of the Best Shrimp Croquette in Brussels competition have been submitting their applications since 25 July.

Registration are now closed, which means we know the 17 candidates who will be competing for the coveted prize.

This year, the organisers have decided to appoint the two chefs from the winning establishments of previous editions, Cédric Mosbeux (Fernand Obb Délicatessen) and Yves Ducobu (Brasseries Georges) as members of the jury. In the previous edition, the title went to Les Brasseries Georges.

Some 20 establishments took part in the 2023 edition.

No less than 17 establishments will be battling it out for the crown: Aux armes de bruxelles, Bouillon, Brasserie Ommegang, Crush, Kroket, La taverne du passage, Le grand café, L’harmony, Le variétés, Les caves d’Alex, Les petits oignons, Les trappistes, Lola, Nuetnigenough, Restaurant Vincent, Toucan and Zotte Mouche.

To take part in the competition, candidates had to meet the following criteria: they had to have an establishment, a canteen, a counter or a food truck in operation and located in the BrusselsCapital Region and offer home-made shrimp croquettes on their menu.

To judge the candidates, the jury, composed of food journalists, chefs and members of the public, will use a scoring grid to rate the products tasted.

Points will be awarded according to several criteria, including crispiness, flavour and quality of the shrimp. This year, the competition will take place in public during Eat Festival, on Sunday 28 September.

Members of the public will be invited to join the jury and award points to the candidates.

The winner will be able to use the title of “Best Shrimp Croquette in Brussels” for a year after the announcement of the results.
