After the late Winter storms of February, the clouds have parted to unveil glorious spring skiing in the sunshine on newly carpeted slopes. Together Magazine took to the mountains to enjoy some spring sunshine in one of France’s highest snow sports resorts – the lively resort of Val Thorens in Les Trois Vallées.
An Apres-ski Focus
In addition to snow sports, Val Thorens is well known for its energetic atmosphere. Music and partying are to be found both in the resort and in venues on the local pistes, like the famous Folie Douce or Bar 360. It also plays host to festivals. This year the Cosmic Mountain Festival will be held here from 17 to 19 April. The highest electro festival in Europe, it will feature an exceptional range of international stars performing across 5 venues from 3pm to 4 am. So plenty of time to enjoy some skiing as well as the festivities !
Location, Location, Location !

Val Thorens Resort
Located in the Tarentaise Valley in the French Alps at an altitude of 2,300 metres, Val Thorens is a relatively new and contemporary destination, having first opened in the 1970s. Today it has grown into a full resort town with excellent facilities including a cinema and bowling alley. Its 31 lifts stretch across 150 km of pisted slopes. Due to its high altitude and excellent snowmaking facilities, it offers a long snow sports season that runs from November all the way to May.
Les Trois Vallées
However, in addition to the local snow sports facilities, it also forms part of the Les Trois Vallées ski area, one of the largest linked ski areas in the world with over 600 km of slopes. Visitors can buy both local ski passes for Val Thorens-Orella or alternatively, for only a few Euro more, ski passes that afford access to the full Les Trois Vallées ski are. Ideal for those that wish to venture further. Using Val Thorens as a base visitors can easily do a ski-tour all the way across to nearby famous resorts like Les Menuires, Meribel or Courchevel and return back in the same day along the well sign posted routes. This effectively opens up the possibility of almost unlimited new skiing. It also allows guests to break up the day to enjoy lunch in slopeside venues of these neighbouring resorts, like Roc Seven in Les Menuires. This offers excellent al fresco party lunches with live music and a lively ambiance.
