From March 23 to May 12, 2024, the Cultuurcentrum Scharpoord in Knokke-Heist hosts the 5th edition of. The exhibition highlights emerging photographic talents with innovative and original works. The selection includes the work of 10 promising photographers and is complemented by Maroesjka Lavigne’s photo series “Someone, Somewhere, Sometime”. Since her participation in “Unknown Masterpieces” in 2014, Lavigne has become a leading figure in the world of photography.
With ’Unknown Masterpieces’, curators Stéphane Verheye and Freddy Van Vlaenderen wish to offer emerging photographers a platform allowing them to highlight artistic work that stands out from conventional approaches.
Maroesjka Lavigne
Maroesjka Lavigne (1989, Belgium) obtained her master’s degree in photography at Ghent University. Her work has been exhibited internationally, notably at the Foam Talent exhibition in Amsterdam, at the Robert Mann Gallery in New York, the Galerie Hug in Paris and the Musée Saint Guislain in Ghent, Belgium. Her latest monograph “Someone, Somewhere, Sometime” includes his four previous projects and is published by Radius Books and Robert Mann Gallery.
Photographers worth discovering
The “Unknown Masterpieces” exhibition traditionally presents the work of 10 promising photographers, carefully selected by curators Stéphane Verheye and Freddy Van Vlaenderen. For this 5th edition, the exhibition brings together works by Abdul-Vahit Duman, Jef Bex, Valérie Naessens, Philippe Digneffe, Kenny Ros, Anaïs Gamme, Margot Vervust, Sylvia Konior, Femke Neyt and Barbara Vandendriessche.
“Unknown Masterpieces” is organized by Stephane Verheye and Freddy Van Vlaenderen. Previous editions took place in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2021.
