Bach and baroque come to Brussels

344

For the second consecutive year, the association Ars in Cathedrali is offering a series of four organ concerts dedicated exclusively to Johann Sebastian Bach.

From noon to 1.45pm on selected dates, young Belgian professional organists will pay tribute to the great German composer.

They are: Peter Ledaine, Laurent Fobelets, Wouter Dekoninck and Hélène Ricardeau.

The concerts will take place in June and July in the Choir of the Cathedral in Brussels, where the organ built in 1977 by Brussels organ builder Patrick Collon is installed. This instrument is particularly well suited to baroque music, especially that of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Still too little known today, this organ was inspired by the sound style of the instruments built during Bach’s time by Gottfried Silbermann (1683–1753), which are located in Saxony and Thuringia.

An event spokesman said, “The “Bach at Meridiem” cycle offers a unique opportunity to hear works by Johann Sebastian Bach performed on an instrument that truly honors his music.”
