The Belgian federal government has launched its flagship project to mark the 200th anniversary of Belgium in 2030.

The Royal Museum of Art and History, the Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage, and Autoworld are working together with the non-profit association Horizon 50-200, to produce an ambitious master plan for the Cinquantenaire site under the banner ‘Cinquantenaire 2030’ culminating with two hubs; one focusing on Innovation and the other Heritage. The aim is for the Park and its rich heritage to become a place of encounters, participation, multi-voice dialogue and constant exchange with a strong European orientation.

The project aims to be very inclusive with a steering group including community groups, those working in the EU bubble and those from further afield.

Anyone familiar with the park will know that there is a traffic tunnel that cuts the park in two towards the rond-point Schuman entrance. A central element of the project will be European competition for young architects to design a solution to cover the tunnel. Part of the aim is for Cinquentenaire to become a model of sustainability, ecological renovation and innovation.
