Helping the homeless in Brussels

If you are worried about the level of homelessness in Brussels an upcoming event may be of interest to you.

The issue, along with precarious housing, remains  one of Brussels’ most pressing social challenges.

What are the systemic barriers, and how can we drive change?

That is what a high level debate in Brussels next month aims to address.

Together with Housing For All Brussels, the group “Restless Brussels” is inviting people to an evening discussion on homelessness in the city with Alexia Falisse, Chargée de mobilisation at Rassemblement Bruxellois pour le Droit à l’Habitat.

It aims to explore the current state of homelessness, policy responses, and how the English-speaking expat community can contribute.

The event is on 3 April from 7pm to 9pm at Mundo-Lab, Avenue des Arts 7/8 in Brussels. Register herehttps://forms.gle/vLSmqx6LfjE5FQ6A8

This comes with campaigners ike Avaaz calling for more to be done to address the issues.

It says that, one any one day in January in Brussels, over 2,000 asylum seekers were sleeping on the streets, many at risk of hypothermia and even death. It wants more additional shelters saying, “In our affluent country, people with no fixed abode can still die from the cold.

“Additional sleep shelters can be created in the near future.”

Aid organisations say they are worried about the many homeless people and asylum seekers sleeping on the streets in Brussels.
