A new expo is set to open in Brussels commemorating the impact war can have on children.

The photographic exhibition “Children in War Territory” will be opened by the European Commissioner Hadja Lahbib, who is responsible for Crisis Preparedness and Management and Equality.

Hosted by the MigratieMuseumMigration in Brussel it is described as a “poignant and significant event.” It opens on 15 March.

“Children in War Territory” is said to “immerse the viewer in the daily lives of children living under bombardment and instability in Ukraine along with Gaza and Syria, other places of bitter conflict.

Through the eyes and lenses of committed photographers, the exhibition is described as “offering a moving look at the impact of war on the most vulnerable.”

The photographers featured include Areej Shaheen, Doaa Al-Baz, Fadi Badwan, Haneen Salem, Mohammad Asad, Mahmoud Abu Hamda, Rojin Ferho and Franky Verdickt.

A museum spokesman said, “This event takes on an even more symbolic dimension by paying tribute to the photographer Areej Shaheen, who tragically died in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza on January 3, 2025.

“Her work, full of sensitivity and strength, will be highlighted to honor her memory and her commitment.”

The museum itself reflects the rich diversity in Brussels.

It gives a permanent home to the stories of the first generation of guest workers, of the earliest inhabitants of the Petit-Château, of the expats, the war refugees, the Europeans who move freely within the EU and many others.
