Featured this week at Milan Fashion Week for spring/summer 2012 Hilfiger’s pop up house on the Piazza Duomoa is a popular novelty attraction.
“The preppy lifestyle has gone global,” reasoned Hilfiger. “We feel that our business has grown so well because preppy travels so well. It’s all-American classic.”
The house will continue its tour to other fashion hot spots such as Knokke, Madrid, London and Tokyo, among others. Hilfiger came up with the idea for a Prep World global tour because he believes that the preppy style has become an international trend.
“It’s no longer just American,” he reportedly said. “It’s in Japan and Germany and France and Holland. It’s slightly different from place to place. In Japan it’s very, very funky. They have people walking down the streets with argyle socks and tartan sweaters. Mixing patterns.”
