Brussels Beer Project brings together 13 breweries from nine countries for two days of craft beer, food and entertainment at Fish Market Square.
As summer comes to an end, Brussels Beer Project is giving beer lovers a good reason to keep the weekend free. Wanderlust, its annual craft beer festival, returns to Brussels on 12 and 13 September, bringing together 13 breweries from nine countries for a two-day celebration of independent brewing, food and live entertainment. The festival will take place outdoors at Place du Vismet (Fish Market Square), close to the Brussels Beer Project brewery on Rue Antoine Dansaert.
A Celebration of Craft Beer
At the centre of Wanderlust is, naturally, the beer. This year’s festival brings together a diverse group of breweries from across the international craft beer scene, including Birrificio Liquida from Italy, Boerenerf from Belgium, Fauve from France, Fuerst Wiacek from Germany, Kaapse Brouwers from the Netherlands and Vault City from Scotland. In total, visitors can expect 56 different beers, offering plenty of opportunity to explore different brewing styles and flavours.
Rather than focusing on one particular style, Wanderlust is designed around discovery. From hop-forward beers and Belgian-inspired creations to more experimental brews, the festival gives visitors the chance to sample beers that they may not normally encounter in Brussels. For those who enjoy discovering independent producers and trying something outside their usual order, that variety is part of the appeal.
More Than Just Beer
Wanderlust is also designed as a social event, with the festival combining its beer programme with food trucks, DJs, bands and other entertainment throughout the weekend. The food offering includes smash burgers from Rambo, artisan kebabs from Panam Kebab and Cubano sandwiches from Frank, giving visitors plenty of options to pair with their drinks.
The open-air setting adds another dimension to the event. Taking over Fish Market Square, the festival brings a distinctly urban atmosphere to the heart of Brussels, while its proximity to the Dansaert neighbourhood makes it easy to combine with an afternoon or evening exploring some of the city’s bars, restaurants and shops.
Make a Weekend of It
One of the more playful elements of this year’s festival is the 13 Breweries Passport. Visitors can collect a stamp by having a beer from each participating brewery, with completed passports entering a draw for a grand prize. It turns what could simply be an afternoon of drinking into something closer to a tasting challenge, encouraging visitors to explore the full range of breweries represented at the festival.
There is also an ambitious attempt to break Brussels Beer Project’s own record for the world’s largest beer tasting. The brewery is inviting festival-goers to take part in a blind tasting comparing its Terra Pils with two major pilsner brands. Participation is free for Wanderlust attendees and does not require an additional ticket.
Why Go?
For anyone interested in craft beer, Wanderlust offers an easy way to discover a broad selection of independent breweries without leaving Brussels. But its appeal extends beyond beer enthusiasts. The combination of international producers, street food, music and an open-air setting makes it a relaxed option for a September weekend with friends.
With the summer festival season winding down, Wanderlust also provides a natural bridge into autumn. The atmosphere is more casual than a large-scale music festival, while the international line-up of breweries gives the event a distinctly European character.
