Party leaders needed twenty hours in order to strike a deal. The negotiators needed to decide how many ministers and junior ministers would make up the new government and which portfolio each party would get. The new government is smaller than the outgoing one that had 15 ministers and 7 secretaries of state.

The new cabinet will swear its oath of allegiance to the Constitution at Laken Palace on Tuesday 6 December in the presence of Belgium’s head of state, King Albert. It is the first government for nearly 18 months.
