In our latest Music in Belgium article we look at two of the hottest tickets at the Ancienne Belgique this month.

Beach House
Praised by AB as “the ultimate indie pop band”, the American duo Beach House, formed in Baltimore, Maryland, has been making beautiful, dreamy indie pop for 17 years. The talented pair features lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Victoria Legrand, who has been compared to Nico, and guitarist Alex Scally. Their eighth album follows seven stunning albums including ‘Teen Dream’, ‘Bloom’ and ‘Depression Cherry’ that they have already produced. “Once Twice Melody” consists of 18 songs, divided into four chapters. In this special launch of their new album, for the first time the duo is collaborating with a string ensemble which is a common thread throughout the album. They will be joined live on stage by drummer James Barone. 30 May, 8pm. AB Main Hall. €33/34. www.abconcerts.be

Kim Gordon
After some 40 years in music – including 30 with the iconic Sonic Youth – American musician, singer and songwriter Kim Gordon (1953) is showcasing her solo album ‘No Home Record’ at the AB where Sonic Youth played in Belgium for the final time before their split in 2011. In this impressive debut, Gordon flirts with raw rock songs, electro, hip-hop beats and what AB calls “grinding noise”. Gordon, who has also a clothing label and an acting career, has already attracted rave reviews including high praise from UK newspaper the Guardian: “Many artists of her stature retreat from contemporary horrors to the comforts of the past, but Gordon relishes new raw material to remake in her own, inimitable image.” 29 May, 8pm. AB Ballroom. €32/33.
