First Belgian golfer in the Ryder Cup

Colsaerts will be the first-ever Belgian to play in the prestigious the Ryder Cup tournament against the United States and is a major boost for Belgian golf.

The Belgian was selected alongside England’s Ian Poulter to have a wildcard entry for Europe at the high profile tournament.

The 29-year-old Colsaerts is the first Belgian to play in the Ryder Cup. He is currently 35th in the world and is playing his strongest season.

This year is the 39th edition of the Ryder Cup matchplay tournament and takes place from September 28 to 30 at the Medinah Country Club in Illinois. A team of twelve Europeans take on a team of twelve Americans .

“Everyone expected the selection of Ian Poulter. He is always good at the Ryder Cup and is in good shape,” said Jose Maria Olazabal, captain of the European team.

“Colsaerts is the only rookie in our team, but he has shown his qualities in May by winning the World Matchplay in Spain.”
